Has any one ever experienced this?

could it be the mic pre on the soundcraft M8, Mics (V67,SP-B1), mic position, singer?

Could it be the Monitors? (ysm-1) Vocals seem to sound ok through head phones, but not through YSM-1's ?

Is there a particular frequency that should be cut going in to the mixer or EQ'ued after its recorded?

Thanks
Pier

I don't think I am, but I will check.

This is my signal chain:
Mic, Soundcraft M8, RNC@insert of M8, Direct out of M8 to Audiophile 24/96 input.

if you're using sonar, you should diable input monitoring.

I am using Sonar,

What do you see happening here?
Please explain what you mean?

Thanks
Pier

go to Options--> Audio...-->Input Monitoring tab

If all the audiophile lines are selected, you should deselect like
Multichannel 1/2

and see if the 'echo' goes away. If not, deselect another one...i'm not sure which you have set up as your output.

hope that helps.

Hi Kevin,

Maybe we are going about this wrong. I am not getting an echo. What I am experiencing is a vocal that sounds like it was mic'd through a tin can or metal tube on play back?

Sorry, i can't 'picture' what that sound you're describing is. maybe you should move this post to the Cakewalk forum and get better expertise. If you do, just say that this is a duplicate post.

A picture is worth a thousand words

Pier,

Is there any way you can post a short sample of the sound you're talking about? That would be very helpful.

Hi c7sus,

Yes direct out of that channel to the Audiophile.

Yea, I don't think its a feed back problem.

You may be right about reflections, because it occurs at times where the vocal is at a specific volume and frequency.

I'll have to try the blanket on the walls thing and see if that helps?

The cans don't produce it but the YSM-1's do!

I monitor the previous tracks from my M8 head phone out put.
I have the audiophile 24/96 out put into a stereo return of the M8.

Yo Pier:

You wouldn't have that problem with a Yam 2816.

Don't shoot.

Just adding a line. I don't know Sonar except on a submarine.

You are experiencing an out of phase track. That's that canned sound. Check your mic cable for polarity, then your mixer for a polarity switch. Are you recording effects onto the vocal track? You could have an issue of phase between the dry and wet signal.

The canned thing is almost certainly due to improper phase, search this board for the term phase.

Just a shot in the dark, but could it be your room? IF there's lot's of drywall near where you are singing you could end up with a shitty brittle tone.

Hello guys,

I will check for the phase issue.
Yes I am in a dry wall room. I will try and cover the walls and see if that makes a difference as well?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Pier

Don't know how extreme of a sound you're talking about, but I'd guess that it would be the room.

I've had rooms give me serious 'boxiness' before.

I've also heard that rooms that are the same width, height, and depth are the worst for this....
