I recorded my friend singing over a Jazzy Christmas song (karaoke track) and was trying to get his voice to sit into the mix a little better, but I am having a difficult time trying to get a "nice sounding" jazz reverb. What are some good starting parameters? (predelay, decay time, plate/hall/room, etc.) The song is upbeat (Santa Claus coming to town)

I did cut and boost some frequencies in the EQ stage and cut a small bit from the instrumental stereo track around 3.11k where his voice shined. I hi-passed his voice above 125HZ and made a small cut at 260HZ.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

I'd help, but I'm actively discouraging any further recordings of this song.... :D

Kidding...what do you mean by "jazz " reverb exactly...?

The song is upbeat (Santa Claus coming to town).
Santa better stay away from my town or he'll be beat up rather than upbeat. :D. Honestly, setting such a bad example to kiddies everywhere, crawling about on rooftops and legitimizing obesity......

The best reverb for jazz vocal? Very little.

One thing I hate to hear in old jazz recordings is on reissues where they run every damn thing through an echo chamber. Excessive reverb/echo ruins vocals, imo. A good vocalist doesn't need to be recorded that wet. Reverb glosses over flaws in vocal technique. With a good singer, you lose a lot of body and character with too much reverb.

Add just enough to make it sound like it was recorded in a somewhat lively room, not a concert hall or an arena.
