Ok I have an adk gc-1 microphone

can check out specs at www.adkmic.com

ok well I am recording on the cpu to cool edit, my recording program and basically when i hit record i get a humming sound.... and it is constant.... whether I speak into the mic or not... I am wondering iof I would be needing a mic preamp therefor I can cut down the voulume and this humming would be reduce .. i dunno I am brand spanking new to audio recording.. Plz help if you are able to.

Your main problem is you have to have 48V phantom power to the mic. You'll need either a mixer (that supplies 48V) or a preamp for that. When you get that make sure you plug into the "line" jack on your soundcard, not the mic jack. The mic jack is made for those cheesy headsets used for talking on internet.

I guess this is the mic you're talking about http://www.ab-cds.com/Queries/Generis_GC-1.asp

hmmmm thnx man i will try IF this fixes my problem, WHats ur adress I'll be mailing a dozewn roses ..... thnx amill....

I will follow up reply and let you know.....

My mic is plugged into the mic slot im going to change it to line in

I had purchased a phanton power supply... so would that be considered to be my preamp? is that a pre amp?

I changed the mic from being plugged into my "mic" input to being plugged into my "line in" input and that same problem still persisted :(...

One person told me that My audio will always hum becuase of my computer fan? is this true?

I dont think that is the case becuase I had a beat machine hooked up into my "line in" input and recorded from the line in while the beat machine was playing and no humming noises had taken place.

I have my microphone positioned in my closet with the cable running about three feet to the phantom power supply which is positoned right next to my cpu tower...

any other ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Thank you in advance

It sounds like there is something wrong with your cables. They could be wired incorrectly.

Try changing mic leads.

Ok so preamp is what I need any online suggestions for cheap prices .. i live in New York City and the prices are hi around here.. I wish I could return the phantom power supply but I brought it online off of ebay :( so Im stuck with it.... I guess it wont hurt to have....ARe preamps designed like power supplys with the 3xlr connector tips and so on sop my mic would plug into the preamp then the other cable would plug into my cpu?...... you guys are awesome.... thanx

I am going to start shopping around for a preamp.

Thnx alot guys I went out and brought a mic pre amp for 69 dollars at a local shop(the pre amp was used) and I am amazed.... the humming noise is non existant and I am learning to mess around with the dials :P... thnx a million... My dreams of one day becoming a star have now been reignited.. all thanx to you.... as for my phantom power supply Im going to just hold on to it... Now my next move would be to some how find a way to get a recording booth of some fashion becuase recodring in the closet deadens the sound but if I have it in my bedroom with the open space my voice echoes and it sounds as if Im in a hall when recording... Im looking into getting some moving blankets and lining 2 walls with them and placing the mic there... I'm not sure yet ... maybe someone has a fool proof plan for making a very low budget but effective way of replicatiiong the effect of being in a sound proof booth?
