I was not satisfied with vocals sound in my projects.
When I first told my friend about the problem he meant at my recorded vocal.wav was bad
Then we agreed that he would send my test vocal from professional recording studio and I would put
effects on it in my project. I used compressor and reverb.
Tried many different in Adobe Audition but it never worked for me.

Many people advised me to buy Cubase SX.
So I did it. Spent a lot of money. Did not solve the problem.

Now they said I need some Plug ins which will cost me extra $$$

What do I really need? My Cubase is SX 2
Is it an easy and cheep way to buy an update to SX 3?
I would like buy some plug in’s but there are too many of them and I don’t know where to start

The recording software itself plays a very minimal role in your overall sound. Plugins are useful for shaping things, but you need to make sure you are capturing a good sound to begin with. What is the rest of your signal chain (mic, preamp, outboard effects, soundcard/interface, etc.) like and, more importantly, is the room you track vocals in acoustically treated? Do you have a soundclip of your vocals? What do you not like about the sound?

As for some of my favorite (free) plugins for vocals:

Compressors:
Kjaerhus Classic Compressor
Digital Fishphones Blockfish

Reverbs:
Kjaerhus Classic Reverb
Desample Glaceverb
SIR convolution reverb

De-esser:
Digital Fishphones Spitfish
