Hello
i want some advise from advanced users about vocals.I recorded our singer and i noticed in the waveform that his voice has a lot of level variation when i recorded him.some parts of the songs are slow and soft and some loud with power.
i want opinions about what effect to use over the voice channel.

i tried
1 a compressor for vocals ,2 EQ ,3 de-esser ,4 Limiter(or maximizer) but edited directly to the waveform.

i haven't tried yet adding an FX channel and rout the vocal on this channel

Thank you

Without hearing the actual track, any advice would be speculation. I hope you are saying you tried each of those FX separately, and not all at the same time! A compressor will help even out the low volume to high volume stuff.

A couple quick things. With a wide dynamic range in sections of the song, u may want to adjust the gain on your mic pre on the fly while recording. Try reaching for the volume automation before the compressor. Also, try listening first, looking at waveform second. :)

Yeah it's tough to tell without hearing the vocal track in the mix. But there are a couple of things you could try...

Have the vocalist practice better mic technique and rerecord it. Back away from the mic a few inches during the louder parts and get closer to the mic during the softer parts.

The other thing is to use a volume envelope (most DAWs have them) to turn up the volume level during the quieter passages and/or turn down the level during the louder passages. In many cases this can be more effective than a compressor in getting what you want.

So the first advice is to Listen and automation ,then any compressor or limiters wright?
and a good choice is using the gain of my preamp at low voice.
