Hi! I just joined and am seeking recommendations for four mics I can use to record four people trying to sing bluegrass harmony. I will be recording to a Yamaha AW16-G. I want to mount the mics radially (facing outward toward the corners of a square) so the singers can face the mics, and see and hear each other, but each voice gets recorded on a separate track.

I would like a decent sound, but it doesn't have to be studio level. The recordings are for fun and learning.

My son, who is in a rock band, recommends the Sure SM58. The reading I have done suggests that it would be good at rejecting the sounds of the other singers.

Since I need four, I prefer not to spend more than about $100 per mic.

I currently have a Rode NT1 and a Rode NT3.

I will be grateful for any and all advice. Thanks in advance!

SM-57s or 58s would work. Or you could go for a more traditional approach and use a single condensor type mic like an AT4033 and have everyone play into it ala WSM style. Or maybe a Figure of 8 mic like an AT4050 and position the players/singers two in front of the mic and two behind. Just some food for thought.
