Hello! Let me just say I wish i've found out about this website earlier, only spent about 40 minutes reading threads and learned a handful of helpful tips.

But anyway, I have no experience with any Preamps. I'm in a band and I scream, sometimes there is distortion in recordings, or it just doesnt sound to great.
Is there a Preamp that would make maybe...the "fuzzyness" or screams sound a little more crisp? clear? Sound closer to a studio recording under a budget?
I would post the band link, but i cant till i post 5 things, well you can google this
"Smite The Stars Soundcloud" listen to "Wishing on a Dying Star"
if you would like to hear the vocals.

List of recording equipment:Shure sm 57 ,M-Audio ProFire 610 ...thats basically it for vocals.

More info, for those recordings we were in a semi small room, with some foam on the walls, we held the mic up to our face. We are going to be moving the home studio into my room, where there is a small closet and we will be 'deadening' the place with studio foam all over the walls. Is there any advice you can give me?Or would a preamp even help the screams sounding more professional?
Thanks and its awesome joining the forums!

i wouldnt deaden everything...even with your style of vocals...you'll leave it sounding like it was recorded in a small closet lined with foam, nothing else :(

I cant offer much advice other than if you are experiencing distortion you are tracking to hot...its a common mistake...dont try and push the faders into the red....

What he said ^ +1

Also you might want to check out a Shure 55Sh handheld mic for what you are doing.

a mic into the interface is sparse, and imo difficult.

i like the channel strip concept, for $150-$200 try a used strip on the vocal track.

if low on funds use free plugs, eq + blockfish or similar.

The Shure Range are pretty good for handling boosted vocals. That and the Sennheiser are good for this type of recording.
