Vocal Mic for Dylan/Strummer type vocals

I'm working on demos for my rock band, as well as some acoustic stuff and I need to find a mic that would complement that kind of raspyish male vocal. I was planning on picking up a at4040 but didn't like my voice through one. I was thinking maybe the rode k2 but am defintely open to suggestions. The groove tubes gt55 might be a cheaper option, but I have no real set price range, it would just impact my other mic purchases for now.

I like sm7's and am actually borrowing one from a friend right now, but I feel like I find a large diaphram condeser. Am I just being a gear addict?
