Hey everyone-
I just got a tascam DP-01 for christmas, and I recorded a few songs with the band i'm in, and I have Audacity on my computer to edit the tracks after I upload them.

What i was wondering is how you make a vocal track sound like it's through a bullhorn, or over an intercom, like it's all fuzzy. I hope you people know what i'm trying to say, i've asked other places and got no responses.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

distortion and eq? cut the lows/low mids, maybe bump up the high mids, highs, and fuzz it up with a distortion plugin. maybe throw a little delay/reverb on it for that far away, echoey sound.

I think I know kind of what you want. Does Audacity have vst plugins? You can use eq to get some of these sounds, and there are some free plugins you can download if the program can use them. Eq out all the highs and lows, and only keep a very narrow band of the sound, and you can get some of the megaphone, or telephone type sounds.

sooo

well, i know how to equalize part of a track, but idk about all that highs/lows/mids stuff, what would it look like when i'm finished?

(The EQ I mean - would it be wavy, choppy, ???)

For some thin type sounds, my eq curve was very narrow. Like a small pyramid, or a frown. Find the main frequency you wish to keep, and just lower the reamining stuff down. You will have to experiment.

okay

that worked out pretty well, it gave an interesting effect, very close to what I was looking for. I think the only thing now is maybe to run my vocals through some distortion - can this be done just with running my mic through a guitar amp with distortion?

Nothing like the real thing really!

Check it out:

Used a real megaphone into a AT 4033 into a ART preamp. No eq/compression needed. That is how the track sounds.
