I know that Delay, Reverb and COmpression can really make a difference in the sound of a vocal track, but I need some suggestions on how to thicken it up. Everytime that I try to use these effects, it begins to sound like it's in the background. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to thicken up the vocal tracks with these effects, while keeping the vocal mix "in your face?" I would really appreciate some specific settings on these effects so I have somewhere to work from. (delay time, ratios, attack, release, etc...) Thanks!

the more you compress the more you need to add make-up gain to keep the vocal in-your-face.

and delay and verbs are used as send/returns, or you'll be hopelessly 'far away'...

- slower attack times on the compressor, to let te initial attack through.

- longer predelay on the reverb will help keep the vocal defined.

- EQ can help to put it more in-your-face by adding slight (!) amounts in the presence range, at least it increases intelligibility.

- recording closer to the mic will actually sound closer.

make sure that the effect maintains at least 95% of the 'dry' output...and then adjust the level of the effect
