i need sum help. Ive been recording throguh the corner of my room which has foam but i dont get the right sound i want. i havent been doin anything profesionally yet cuz i just started to earn the money for it. but i realized i could use a velvet curtain and make a booth outta that cuz that would kill the sound from bouncing off the open walls. but then i saw another studio that had an open room with tapestries( lrge fabrics that hang on the walls and ceiling) and they recorded vocals like that. and since i do sum guitar tracks, i dont knowwhat better. oh just to mention the music i do is rap but now experimenting with classic rock riffs and blues. my question is, which way is better, a vocal booth or an open room? i have used my d.i. box but its not much help. i just need sum guidance.

A vocal booth is used to get a dry sound with no room in it, so that you can add your own artificial reverbs etc (hardware or software processors) In high standard studios they create the same reverb and roominess with the acoustics of the room and so it is open. In that way you get a warm room sound without any processing in the wave. You have to tune the room to get such acoustics. When you build a big dedicated studio you can do this, but if you want to use your basement or any other room for various other purpose too, then stick on to the vocal booth.
