Do I need bass traps if so where?? ear level or the wall to ceiling part?

3'x3' that's tiny. I think you should treat at least 3 of the walls and the ceiling. This will make it completely dead, but for such a small room, that's the best option.

If he treats 3 of the walls and the ceiling he probably wont fit in!

a salesman told me that you don't want bass traps in a tiny vocal booth

and that 2" foam is just fine

no need for 4"

That's really lame advice. The smaller the room, the worse the bass problems. And 3 by 3 feet, square, is about as bad as it gets. The only thing worse would be if it had a six foot ceiling.

I just ran my RealTraps Mode Calculator on that room and there are peaks at 70 Hz, 140 Hz, and a really big peak at 188 Hz due to the double 3-foot dimensions. Two inch thick foam ain't gonna do squat for those frequencies.

Use 2" foam on two adjoining walls from waist high to 7' high, and cover the cieling with 12" thick 703(3 layers of 4").. then sing facing the corner with the foam and DON"T sing in those frequencies:D

Well, it already sucks so why not try something easy. Can't make it any worse!

So how do actually you get a singer and a micstand in 3ft x 3ft?! I hope the door opens outwards haha.

It's really a closet, isn't it?

My suggestion is that you put mic stands and things of that nature in there.

:)

Seriously, foam will sound creepy. Can't you sing in a bigger room?

Since I use an RE20 I don't even have to wear 'phones anymore.
