Parallel walls are not a problem in a booth that will be treated to be totally dead. The dimensions are important though - no two should be the same or a 2:1 multiple.

Rigid fiberglass at least two inches thick is the best material. For the complete story see my Acoustics FAQ here:

Rick,

I never got it. What email address did you use? Nevermind, please don't post it because email addresses in a forum post are a spam magnet. You can find my personal email address on my personal site:

www.ethanwiner.com

Or email me through the Contact page of the RealTraps site:

www.realtraps.com/contact.htm

Both pages have links you can click to avoid mistyping. If you still don't get a reply, please call me on the telephone! You can even use the toll-free number on the RealTraps site - if emails properly addressed are not getting through, I need to know! :D

im feeling left out of my own thread, ethan, i finished reading your whole paper. thanx againn, i learned alot. in one part you say any room less than 10x10 should be dead. there is no way i can make the booth bigger than that or even close. should i just make it dead then, with maybee a wood floor?

Yeah, or at least cover 50 percent of the walls and ceiling with absorption. You can use a 2x2 foot checkerboard or 2 foot wide stripes pattern. Maybe treat one or two walls more fully near one corner, so you'll have a totally dead area for recording vocals.

My thinking is to use the 50 percent to cover two adjacent walls completely plus the ceiling and then to position the mic so I am speaking toward the corner of the two adjacent fully covered walls. My thinking is that it takes two surfaces to tango in terms of slap reverb and if one half of each pair is fully absorbent then it is dead. This also means giving up less floor space to the absorbers.

My thinking is the two walls with NO absorption will still be a comb filter generator, especially in such close proximity. Whadda think Inno?

thanx for the replies. so, the boooth will be appox 4x5 with a 7 ft ceiling. ill cover 2 walls and the cieling fully. then 50% on the other 2 walls with either a wood or some other hard surface floor. ill be using oc 703. this sound eright? thanx again for the help..... :)
