gimmi your mic!
hi --

I use a VM 3100 Pro + RPC audio interface for a year or so. It happened today that my output channels 13/14 (which are the stereo outputs from the computer to the speakers) started having a LOUD hiss, cracks and hum! The other channels seem to fine, though. Any idea what could be wrong?? Do you think the channels are blown?? If so, can I re-route the master output to other channels??

What are you sending out of channels 13/14? I'm assuming it's audio from a program other than Logic RPC. If that's the case I would just open a Logic project and try playing back an audio track through those channels.

If the problem doesn't persist than you have a sample rate conflict with the other software you were using. If it does persist the only thing I could suggest would be reinstalling the driver for the RPC.

In regard to your other question, yes you can route the master output anywhere you like. This is done in the EZ Routing page under OUT.

If this doesn't answer your question, please reply with more specific info on your set up and I'll try to help.

Good luck.

Just another note. It is highly advisable to not spill liquids (especially Pepsi) on you mixer. I had the unfortunate experience of having to learn this one the hard way.

Points for Roland for their case design, although it is a bitch to crack open. Luckily they have covers over all the controls (except the faders) so my damage was minimal (just a few sticky faders).

hi stray --

sorry to hear about your "spilling problem". But then again, you are lucky to have 2 VM3100-Pros, right? I'll try to avoid spilling Pepsi over it and will only use the mixer as an ashtray ;-)

Thanks for your help regarding the clipping/distorting/humming channels 13/14. It actually happend after I opened a Real Audio window and played a life audio stream while Logic was still running in the background (I forgot to exit Logic). I rebooted my computer, started Logic 5.5.1 again, opened the Audio Control window in Logic and rebooted the audio card, hoping that might solve the problem, which it didn't.

However, just this morning I found a fix to the problem:
I opened the RPC audio control panel again and changed the sample rate seetings from "internal master" to "external master". Even though I have never used an external gear as master clock device, I clicked it and the sound quality was perefect again! Strange, really. I guess the Real Audio life audio stream + Logic running at the same time must have messed up the sample rate settings or something. In any case, it seems to be working again, even though I still don't understand the problem.
