Howdy! Why,just today I was doing some comparative recording with
the VM3100 and my little
Mackie 1402 VLZ that I've had for a few years, running the same tracks through each and recording the results.Gotta say that although the Mackie sounds good, the Roland has the edge on clarity and crispness of sound. To answer your questions, even though there are only 3 physical EQ knobs on the mixer,s face, the actual EQ is totally sweepable(you have to use the Data wheel in conjunction with the Knobs.Yes,IMO the EQ sounds quite good, and it is precise.)There are 2 FX engines in the PRO,1 in the cheaper model.Dunno about the cheaper, but in the pro you can use both FX on the same sound,or many sounds routed to the same FX,etc. Many of the patches have a series of different FX as part of the same patch, and you can turn one or more of these off w/o affecting the others.E.G. "guitar multi" has compression,EQ,delay, distortion, chorus.IMO the FX are the same level of quality as the VS recorders, which is pretty damn good.Plus, there's an EQ Library and a Compressor Library with both preset and user patches,so if you like a certain EQ on sy Sax,the next time you do some Sax tracks, you can call up the EQ even if it's another song you're recording. Both RECORDING MAGAZINE and ELECTRONIC MUSICIAN reviewed this mixer in the last few months,if you want more feedback, check these out.Cheers!
