Vm-200 S/P dif with tcelectronic m1 effects

This is the setup

Fostex vm200 with all analog channels maxed out with gear. I have a tc electronic m1 fx unit with spdif in & out. can i run the effect of the m1 into the vm200 with spdif without having to unplug a analog channel and run the efx's that way? and route the send & returns to the spdif? Is this at all possible. Keep in mind im coming from a mackie 1202 and this vm200 beast has a steap learning curve at least for me.

Geeze...I can't believe that nobody replied to this question. It seems like it would be an easy one for most users out there. I haven't tried this, as I don't have any external effects. However, I'm quite certain that the answer is 'Yes, Absolutely'.

I can only imagine that you've gotten past this by now. If so, let me know how you did it, if you wouldn't mind...to save me some time if I should get a Compressor/Limiter with Digital I/O .....or perhaps use my Roland VS840's built-in effects via the Analog Aux Sends to the S/PDIF in for returns.

I am quite certain that you can can run all of the Analog ins and outs, plus the S/PDIF and the ADAT ins and outs, simultaineously... However, I only started getting into the mixer desks and effects loops etc, over the past year and 1/2, and havien't experimented too much yet...beyond getting sound to the patch bay and into the computer...

You can route the S/PDIF "in" to any of the 20 channels. Use Page 2 of the Routing/Phase menu, and select which inputs will get the retruned effect. However, S/PDIF "out " gets it's signal from the stereo buss out . All 20 channels are routed to that by default. I believe that you will get ALL 20 channels going into your M1, in stereo. The S/PDIF out is used to either mix to a DAT, CD recorder, or the like, and also to chain 2 VM-200's together.
You may have to do some muting of channels that you don't want going to the M1 to prevent this.
Pages14, 159 and 168 of the manual explain it.

Unless I am missing something, this is the answer. There is a block diagram of the mixer on page 41 of the manual. While it is a bit hard to comprehend at first, it does explain a lot of the routings.
