Ok. Hello Everyone. Here is my current dilemma. I'd like to have your opinion on this.

I currently have a Mackie VLZ 16 channel board, which is not that bad.

I could get a focusrite octopre for a good price right now, which would replace my VLZ.

I'm not sure which pre's are better. I read that they are about the same.

My VLZ is now connected to my DIGI through direct outs. The octopre would be connected through lightpipe.

Which is better? opinions?

The Octopre preamps sound somewhat better than VLZ pres. And going in via dat would reduce potential noise and signal loss from patch cables. It's probably worth doing if you have the money to spend, and will net you some improvement, but don't expect a miraculous difference.

Focusrite all the way. Better pre's, plus you get dynamics. Make sure you know what options are installed - the OctoPre's don't come from the factory with ADAT cards; it's an upgrade option. The S/PDIF card in my TrakMaster was around $150.
