Not a recording question but a technical question related to music none the less. I want to use windows media visualizations for our live performance though obviously on a big screen. Up to now we just have some songs playing on the player to power the changing effects but I was wondering if there was any way I could plug a mic, through a pre amp of course and have our music run through the media player and hence the effects would change in time with our music instead of the songs w have playing on mute??? Hope this makes sense. Maybe there's another program to do this??? Any ideas?

No offence, but probably the LAST thing I want to be reminded of is Windows Media Player when I'm at a live show.
I would suggest some decent lights or if you do want to use a video projector have someone run a video mixer with pre-rendered visualizations and images.

In an ideal world I would do what you say but since we're broke we can't live in your ideal world and I fail to see how the visualizations would remind you of windows media player. Buy some lights indeed!!!! Broke people need creativity not advice on what to buy

Try G-Force. There's a standalone version (no ms media player required) and I believe some artists have used it live already.

Ahh yes! I have heard about that from THIS thread.
/sarcasm (thanks acegunn)

BTW clothdeejay it is bad forum etiquette to post the exact same question more than once at the same forum. just pick the most appropriate forum and post the question once, people will see it.... don't worry.

Alreet saucy 2 show me the way to the live visual section and i'll be there. I'm from scotland mate we got no etiquette all barbarians working on a shoestring here.
