visualizations

Not a recording question but a technical question related to music none the less. I want to use windows media visualizations for our live performance though obviously on a big screen. Up to now we just have some songs playing on the player to power the changing effects but I was wondering if there was any way I could plug a mic, through a pre amp of course and have our music run through the media player and hence the effects would change in time with our music instead of the songs w have playing on mute??? Hope this makes sense. Maybe there's another program to do this??? Any ideas?

I couldn't find anything like a free VST plugin that you might be able to use in Audacity or Kristal for a totally free setup, so you might be stuck buying something.

But heck, for $9, that plasmavis looks pretty cool. It has both a WMP plugin and a stand-alone app that listens to the mic input.
 
dat ain't gonna work. windows media player needs to open a file.

joo gonna have to write joo own program, mang. or find a program that does what joo need. de 'super furry animals' do stuffs like this. see what they do and jack it.

but if it was me, mang, i would write my own program. but i'm too busy building a telecaster that bends space-time.
 
Uhh, just playing devil's advocate here, but have you researched whether or not Windoze media visualizations are copyrighted and you can use them for a public performance? Perhaps you could find another app to use for that if not?
 
Just downloaded plasma vis and it's perfect for the job. Hit the bass drum and splash and explosion of colour comes from the projector! Good call mate. We're playing thurs night I'll let you know how it goes! Copyright hahahahaha
 
Cool, glad its shaping up to be what you need. You'll have to post pictures or video of the performance if you get it working on a large scale!
