I've been reading up on small USB and Firewire interfaces and the common consensus seems to be that nothing works with Vista PCs. Can anyone confirm this? I'm willing to upgrade my OS or entire PC if necessary, but I want to make sure. The device I have in mind is a Presonus Firebox, and people are saying that Presonus devices and Vista don't get along well at all. Anyone have any experience with this? Or, alternately, know of a comparable device that does work with Vista? Seems like I might be in for an upgrade/downgrade of OS or a new PC. Thanks!

I have a Sony Vaio dual core 1.5 Ghz laptop with Vista Home Premium SP2 that came with 1GB RAM. My wife won it in Dec 2007.
It was slow, failed 75% on DVD projects and was only good for Net surfing and the games that came with it. Never attempted any audio projects. I hated Vista so bad.
Then, I removed one 512 RAM and put in 2GB, now has 2.5GB. The machine now rocks.
I now have a Tascam M-164UF USB 16 channel mixer. Works great. Tascam recommends no Wifi or USB devices except KB & mouse, if recording
Also, added an external WD HD connected by the iLink FW port.
Everything is running well, no issues. I think Vista needs more RAM. I think I should remove the other 512 and add another 2GB

I've got vista 64 bit and have used both USB and Firewire. Both have worked great! Never had any problems (some wierd things happen occasionally but never something major). I actually have the firebox and it's great on vista from what I have expierence.

I hear about all these vista issues, never in my life have I had an issue. However, the components and type of computer etc... all can effect your system so that's why some people have problems and some don't.

I have 4GB of ram and a 2.00GHTz Duo. It's a laptop and I use a firewire express card because there are no express ports on my laptop.

put that in your mic and record it

A'ight, that's good to know. I may just get the box and try it out anyway, as I can always upgrade after the fact. I only run Vista 32 bit, triple core AMD and 2 G RAM but I think I'll add 2 more as we all know any version of Windoze is a pig on RAM.
Farno, how do you like the Firebox? What kind of stuff do you record with it?
Thanks, and may Shai Hulud protect you.
