I am completely lost as to what my computer will work with. i know certain softwares will work just fine with vista, but i for one have no idea what an interface is, such as M-audio, or what interface is compatible with windows vista.

i need suggestions for soundcards, interfaces, there compatability with vista, and if anyone feels like it, software advice.

i have been told to use reaper, but i wanted some other opinions.

i have done recording before witht his computer, and they just have a lot of hiss, then again, i never plugged directly into my soundcard because i had no idea how to, and still don't. (something about a PCI port in the back of my PC?)

thanks for your time!

MOTU interfaces are all Vista compatible.

Their 8Pre is a steal at $550 for 8 independent channels.

If you get a Firewire interface, you don't have to open up the computer. You just plug in a firewire cable and go for it...

An interface is a sound card. A sound card brings sound into your computer and also back out to your speakers.

There is USB, FireWire, or PCI/PCI-express. FireWire or USB interfaces (FireWire is always better) plug right into the jacks on the back of your computer. FireWire/USB is pretty much "plug-n-play" or "plug-n-pray" and should work on Vista. You will want to make sure though.

PCI cards require you to open your computer case and pop them into the slot. You'll be able to tell which slot is the right one just by looking at it/gently trying to put it in. It's like legos. I think M-Audio just released a Vista driver but you will need to do some research on that to see what other people's experiences are.

Edit: Oh, and for software, Reaper is a no-brainer.

Delta Series Maudio hardware is now supported under vista
