Virtual Keyboard / Plugin Question

Ok so I have a question. I have used a program called amplitude for my guitar. Which works out pretty good. I was wondering I have a old Yamaha keyboard from like 92 91 it doesn't have MIDI out on it, it does have a 1/4 instrument jack on it. For plugging into amps.

My question is there something I can buy to add MIDI to it or is there a virtual keyboard / instrument plugin for keyboards that work kind of like that amplitude does for guitars. I could just run the output of the keyboard into my setup and use a plug-in to change the sound of it.

If not what is a good MIDI keyboard?

There is no economical way to add midi to a keyboard that doesn't have it.

There are many Yamaha (and Casio, and other manufacturers) models that do have midi either on standard midi jacks, a USB interface or both. USB has an advantage in that you don't need to buy anything else to use the keyboard with a computer.

There are many, many free midi plugins out there, both soft synths (VSTi's) and soft effects (VSTfx). A good source is gersic.com and if you click on the 'gersic' name it will take you there.

The last piece of the puzzle with be a software host, and for that I recommend Reaper.
