Person.
hey - i happened to pop into a local pawn shop today, and found a neat old bass. It says "telestar" on the headstock, and it is styled kind of like an epiphone casino-type bass. I was wondering if anyone is familiar with these guitars??? i picked it up because, if nothign else, it'll look good as wall-art ... but i'm curious the history of these japanese things.

The link True gave youn is a good one - I I.D.'d my guitar there.
The bass is very similar to the Bruno range of semi guitars as well as the Emprador - the latter esp with the thumb rests. I have an E,prador bass that is VERY similar though it has 355 styled horns & a few other variations. I've found MIJ guitars & basses from that era great fun to play &, if treated properly, good for recording.
Hope you can play it & enjoy it.

Those are one that time forgot, everyone loves Teisco and Kingston, but everyone forgets Kent and Telestar. They're great for the wood but the electronics aren't teh best. With a set of pick ups and pots you'd have an absolutely amazing bass, something it would take hundreds of dollars to replace.
