vintage synth to computer?

i was thinking of about getting a casio CZ1000 and it has midi capabilities. i also have a sony vaio laptop with linux and pretty much nothing on the harddrive and i have about 18 gigs left. My question is how can i get my keyboard to my computer, and how can i get sweet sounds transfered to it? also can i save the sounds on my keyboard and not need the computer to play it?
any gear suggestions are welcome, thank you!
 
Things you need to learn.

1. MIDI isn't audio. You can use your Casio (or other MIDI capable keyboard) to send MIDI data to your computer. That dosen't mean that the sounds your keyboard makes will travel down the MIDI cable to your PC. MIDI is a recording of events. Events like, key on, key off, duration between key on and off. Velocity of key strike (if your keyboard is capable of recognizing velocity) and some other fine MIDI messages like aftertouch and pitch bend.

2. Unless you have a software editor for your keyboard or your keyboard is a sampler there isn't anyway that you can deliver sounds from your computer to your keyboard.

oh ok, well thanks for clearing that up for me. Then whats the point of having midi on my casio?

You can use the Casio to play the sounds of other instruments or softsynths in your computer. Which also means that you can record your MIDI performance with the computer or another sequencer.

You can play the sounds of your Casio with another instrument or with the computer via a sequencer.

Both things are extraordinarily useful.

so if i happened to want to play a keyboard say the doors used, i would just download the synth program or whatever, hook it up to a midi usb thing and then record a song on the computer while playing my casio, then later on if i want to use it for a live performance and dont want to use a computer, could i just keep the song downloaded on my casio without the computer?
