Hi there
Imagine you have a setup that easily gives you a decent "modern" distortion sound - think old to not so old Van Halen.
But now you'd want something that sounds "pre-Eddie" - think Hendrix. I'm thinking of something that sounds really loaded but less "tight" and fuzzier (not in the meaning of a typical guitar fuzz) than modern distortion.
What is actually the most crucial difference between those sounds and how could you turn one into the other?
I'm not after anything like "use these tubes", I'm more interested in what is actually done to the signal or a detailed comparison of the sounds to finally understand and not just intuitively hear the difference and be able to work with it.
Any help?
