This is my friend Chris Lively again on vocals and guitar - with a guest violinist (details on the soundcloud page) and actually me on bass.

My first time recording a violin - she's an excellent player and was really easy to work with. I used the everything and the kitchen sink approach using 4 tracks, and I think the result is usable (it better be, we recorded three original songs that I'm going to mix as well) - in retrospect I think I would have used different mics. Anyway, see what you think of the mix.

Sounds real good man. Love the vocals and the violin. The playing is right in the groove. The mix is muddy for me. In places it is too pushy in the midrange, for example the opening guitar on the left. I hadn't heard the song before--love it! A female harmony with kick it up a notch.

thanks man - I've been embracing the muddiness, but I think I'll try and reduce it. There was a fair amount of experimentation going on - another thing is that I don't think the vocal mic is the best match for this guy - it's a great mic, but heavy on the low mids in a way that fights with the guitar.

I did notice some conflict between the vocal and guitar. Hope you're sticking with that vocal take.

OK - I took out some 150-ish hz from the guitar tracks and the vocals. I think it's better. I uploaded over the original (which means you might need to refresh to hear it? dunno). Thanks!!!

Big improvement. The bass is standing out more now. I like it. I'm noticing the harmony more.

Excellent performance. I don't really have anything to say on the mix. There's not too much going on but the important thing here is to make room for the vocals. But you already did that, so... Good job!
