I am a musician and a Singer. Looking to buy a mixer with usb for live performance and home recording!!
want views and recomendations on which mixer is a better option a) MACKIE PROFX12 OR B) ALLEN & HEATH ZED10FX???
opinions will be appreciated from sound techies!
Thanks a million!!

First thing to remember is that mixers are for mixing, interfaces are for recording. Both of these devices will only allow 2 tracks (one panned left, one right in the stereo USB output) to be recorded separately at the same time. If you will never want to record more than two sources simultaneously, no problem, you can do it with either.

I have the Mackie, and think it's a good product for the price. If you read some reviews you will see some people complaining about a high pitched whine/noise on the USB circuit, but this only seems to come when the USB from computer to mixer is cranked too high via the volume control on the mixer. The Mackie has 6 mic preamps, but only 1 instrument DI input (channel 1). The Mackie has some built in reverbs/FX, as does the A&H, I can't testify to its use live, having never used it for that. The Mackie has inserts for the 1st 4 mic channels.

Nice post.

Hi,
Really great information for the mew musicians.I have learned many new things from this.

As for live ..... I would tend to lean way over towards the Allen and Heath Zed!

amazing opinion!!

Thanks for the amazing opinion!! Well as you must have guessed I am a musician with little sound knowledge. Now as you mentioned I browsed a few websites to check reviews and found the same, that mackie gives noise while connedted to USB.

Presently I am using the Mackie VLZ 12 channel analog mixer with lexicon reverb(external). It really give me a great sound!!

Considering this, can I expect the same sound quality from Mackie profx??

Heard a lot more positives about A&H..Have to take a decision soon!!!!!

I've got no experience with the VLZ, so can't comment on a comparison, but I have no complaints about the PROFX12. If you already have a mixer, I would strongly advise you to look for an audio interface instead. If you've got the cash for one of these mixers, a little more will get you the Tascam US-1800 with more simultaneous inputs/tracks than you you will get otherwise.

Cool!!! but need to tell that my Vlz is getting older and I need to replace it before it gets worn-out and my show is fuc*ed!! Thanks though!!!
