Peavey ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone doing video work with Nuendo or SX?

I'm about to make the leap into video post procuction with a friend of mine. His video work is excellent and I'm all over sound effects, voice overs, and such. I've done some simple stuff in the video editing software and wondered if anyone has experience working with the meatier tools on Nuendo and SX. :)

I figure it works the same way as mixing and automating audio, just you're timing it to the video instead of the drums or what-not.

I'm pretty excited about it. Seems like all those mixing skills translate easily to video sound work. :D Oh, boy! New things to do with my toys!!

Take care,
Chris

Nuendo is better at Post than SX. But it's pricey and a bit overkill for just sound effects. I've gotten good results using Sonic Foundry's Vegas Audio Pro. I think it's discontinued and all they offer now is Vegas Video Pro... however, I've seen places closing out Audio Pro for cheap.

What's your friend using? Adobe Premiere actually has pretty good audio mult-tracking capabilities. Combine that with a good editor like Cool Edit Pro, Sound Forge, or WaveLab, and you're in good shape.

I'm using Premiere 6 for video, and yeah its audio mixing, effects, and automation are pretty sweet. I'm just thinking for a more complex audio project it might be better to take the finished video edit, crunch it to mpeg, and play it back in SX (I don't have Nuendo :( ) and use its audio optimized engine and mixing capabilities.

Things like having whole groups of sounds automated through the group faders, selective effects within a sound file (premiere makes you cut the file into pieces to selectively apply an effect), etc. are what I'm looking for. I'm really into ambient sounds, audio stage-play, and little touches when it comes to sound for video. Too much audio effecting and automation can really choke up the video software- at least on my 800mhz machine.

We'll see. So far everything went fine in Premiere, but I have a large voice over project this weekend and I'm going to see how well SX works for it. Its a little bit of overkill, but I'm also getting ready for some even larger projects coming up in Sept. and Oct. There I'll be using ProTools and Final Cut Pro.

Take care,
Chris.
