They have 10 dollar shipping and are reliable. Just make sure your shippiing address is the same as your billing and there will be no problems.

I would recommend a Matrox G450 or G550. Matrox has always, without a doubt, had the best 2d quality you can get, plus they've been doing dual head output for longer than just about anybody. They also happen to always have drivers that work as advertised, which isn't always the case with other video card manufacturers...*cough*ati*cough*.

I second the Matrox vote. They may not be the greatest performers for 3D, but then again most DAW apps don't need that stuff, BUT they are the most reliable and stable cards out there. Tech Support and driver updates are excellent as well.

I own an ATI and will never buy another one again. Their support simply SUCKS! It took them over a year after Win2k was launched to release final drivers and the Multimedia Center app for my All-in-Wonder 128. The extra features of my card (DVD,video capture, TV tuner) were all useless during that time in Win2k.

As far as Matrox, the G450 would suffice - there is no real performance gain with the G550 to warrant the extra money. The only difference is that the G550 supports some new "Head Casting" feature that is pretty much useless for most people.

I'm not sure where I read it, but I heard that the G450 is actually a faster card, but has a few less features. I'm not sure what the difference is, they both have 360Mhz RAMDAC and DDR....maybe I'm imagining things.

I pulled this from the G550 review on tomshardware.com:

HeadCasting - 3D From A Comms Angle

The HeadCasting engine is the only major 3D feature added since the G450. With the HeadCasting engine comes an additional T&L engine that is specifically optimized for Matrix Palette Skinning.

The singular benefit of this feature is Matrox' emphasis on acceleration of animated photo-realistic faces with lip synching. As such, by drawing attention to this feature, Matrox leaves itself very open to criticism on 3D, whereas it is quite apparent that the G550 is not going to be a competitor to 3D accelerators from Nvidia, ATI, and STMicroelectronics.

Pretty useless stuff IMHO.
