Hey there,
What tends to be the most common good video card DAWs are using now? I have one LCD monitor, and I'm about to pick up a second one, and need to upgrade my card so I can use dual monitors. Also, I have a separate hard drive devoted to gaming, so I need the card to be worth a damn gaming (Games include Final Fantasy XI, Half-Life 2). Any good options for that?

Well I use a XFX Gforce 6600GT which you can probably buy for about $100 now...

It has Dual DVI Ports but also comes with the SVGA Adapters so you can use dual monitors in LCD or SVGA....

It has a Clock Speed of 500mhz and a Gddr3 Memory speed of 1000mhz but can be easilly clocked to 600mhz and /1100mhz so it is pretty fast....

I can Play Doom 3, HL2 ,Far Cry, at 1024x768 without any problems at all.....

If you have the money the 6800GT or the 7800GT are a couple steps up from the 6600gt but for a bit more money......

Cheers

You can get a 7800GT for $197 on newegg by EVGA right now, there's also good cards like a 7600GT for around $150. I myself, got the 7900GS, which uses a smaller nm tech, and with 24 pipelines, instead of the 7800GT's 20 pipelines. I suggest, since your doing a little gaming also, to get something that will be able to play all the new games right now on all high quality so that you wouldn't have to upgrade again soon.

The main question here is:

PCIE or AGP.

AGP cards are a thing of the past nowadays and PCIE is the new industry standard. If you're unsure, post the model of your motherboard and I'm sure someone will have the answer for you.

I'm still using the Radeon 9800 pro (AGP) and plays games decently. However, you can get Radeon X800's for cheap in both PCIE and AGP. All the Nvidia cards mentioned above are all great options.

Remember, you get what you pay for, and older technology isn't terrible. I would think that spending about 150-250$ on a brand new card will get you one that should last quite some time and play all the latest games (even if you have to reduce the settings a tad).

One thing you SHOULD avoid is buying the brand new latest and greatest card. These usually retail for an outrageous amount of money. I cant stress the fact enough that these cards will go down in price 40-50% in 3-4 months alone.

I seen a ati 9250 256 mb for $33 bucks on newegg, its still $100 in the stores.
Its not great but cheap and reliable.
I use a gforce 5500 fx 256 mb Its been good too, You can probaly find a newer version for $60.
I play 25 to life, reservoir dogs, swat 4, Madden 07 with 512 ram and 1.8ghz so its not my pc making them run smooth.

my new powermac has something cool in it. i dont know what it is, but i get dual DVI outs. i think its a radeon 9600 pro or something.
