Hi everyone

Sorry to bug you, but I wanted to ask one more time before I buy this video card. It's a Sapphire Atlantis 9200 with 128Mb mem, and both VGA and DVI output. I've searched this forum and the web several times, and was hoping someone could tell me plainly whether this card, or more generally, cards with both these outputs, can do extended desktop on dual monitors.

I have a friend who struggled with one card, which shall remain nameless, so I'm just being a little cautious.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated, as I am going to invest in the card very soon, unless someone has something to say!

Thanks!
Brian Wylie

I don't see why not.

You need to get a DVI to VGA adapter and make your settings in your display properties to extend the desktop to both monitors.

Are you running WinXP? Was your friend?

It depends on the DVI mode on that card. There's three DVI modes: DVI-I, DVI-D, and DVI-A. I, D, and A stand for integrated, digital, and analog, respectively. If your card's DVI output is DVI-D, then you have to use a DVI-capable monitor. If it's A or I, then you can use an adapter to hook up to regular analog monitors.

Whew. I didn't know that. Guess I got lucky with the last 2 cards that I had.

my dual monitor card came with the dvi to vga plug

Thanks

Hi

Thanks very much - that's exactly the kind of answer I was looking for! Much appreciated! I'm not sure of the DVI mode my friend was running, but he was using XP, but the "extended desktop" only gave him a clone screen. The card I am getting is DVI-I, so thanks very much, elevate, I'm now much more secure in my mind!

Thanks again
Brian

Make sure you select "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" or else yeah it will just give you a duplicate of the primary monitor.

Cheers

I suggest you get a program called Ultramon. It works a lot better than Windows's Display settings.
