Let's see, I think it's a 8X burner, but I could be wrong. What I do know is it's an extremely accurate burner. I've done quite a few discs on my VF80 and not one error in the bunch -- never. My PC burner is faster, and very inconsistent -- clicks, skips, etc.

Maybe call Fostex to see if yours is unusually slow. I'd say this though, I'll take slow and dead on accurate result every day of the week over speed.

ummmm...

Well, i guess it really is time 4 me to get a knew 1. The way u explained it is similar to the way i feel....just the opposite.... My PC cd burner is fast as (5mins for 80mins cd!) ive seen, yet on the other hand, my VF80 must be faulty man, cuz even the first time i burnt a cd, there was an error. & finally, after it's burnt i put it on my PC cd burner & tryed to burn it on that & it came up with over 1000 errors in scan mode!!! Thats bad, im sendin' it back 4 sure!!! Thanx.... what do u think man??

Before you send the CD burner back -- are you sure the burner is the problem and not the CD-R itself? Recordable CDs are subject to some of the same failings as analog recording tape--sound drop-outs and the like. That is why the manufacturers of the expensive analog equipment recommended good brands of recording tape like Maxell, TDK, or Ampex and not Radio Shack brand or the no-name brand at K-Mart.
I have quit using the no-name CD's and always go for name brands like TDK, Maxell, or Fuji.
