I've only seen the VF-80ex on eBay these days. It (and the VF-80) have been discontinued. I bought a VF-80 in 2003 and didn't get the onboard burner as I already had a stand alone burner which works well. I'm still happy with the setup (although I am leaning towards purchasing a VF-16ex).

With any luck you can find a reasonable Buy It Now price. I hate "bidding" on eBay. Call me old fashioned...no, don't.

VF80's are great little machines. If you have the extra $200.00 definitely go with a VF160EX (lots more tracks and yet the same reliable setup).

VF80's are effectively 6-track (2 at once) recorders because you have to use 7/8 as the stereo master tracks at bouncedown. It still helps to have 'em, but on the VF160 you have all 16 to bounce down to a separate stereo master...

In general, Fostex VF's are tremendous value.

Save the extra beans and go with the VF160EX. Once I got comfortable with it (I'm formally an analog guy) I fell in love with it. Great machine for the $. I'm very impressed with the quality of the finished cd's, as are my bandmates.
