Here I go again. I finally got some content on my VF80 (my own "Bulgarian Bumblebees," sung in 3-part harmony to the tune of "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" -- pretty funny.) But I STILL don't know how to get it on the #*!@$#% computer in mp3 format so that I can e-mail the thing to friends.

I have worn everyone out with my inquiries about S/PIDF. I got no S/PIDF input on my sound card so that's not an option.

Can I just go out of my Fostex from the stereo outs and into the line in on my soundcard, and record the product on sound recorder? Then what? Assuming that works (it won't), how do you transmogrify the file into an mp3? I know there are "mp3 to WAV" and vice versa downloads out there. What do you do to make them work? Do you record onto them?

If I absolutely have to, I'll TRY to make a CD on the Fostex (internal burner), but that still leaves the question of how you get the audio file from the CD and into mp3 format.

I'll post this on the computer forum and see if I get bites there.

If you have an internal burner, you can save your tracks as wav files onto a CD (haven't got a manual in front of me, but if you read it about six times you'll figure out how). Presumably you've mixed down on the FOstex, in which case you'll simply get a stereo .wav of the final mix, otherwise you'r einto using n-Track or wahtever and mixing on the PC.

To convert the mixed down .wav to .mp3, use on of the many free downloadable utilities (I use CD-Ex - a google search will find it). They are very easy to use - just open the programme, tell it which files you want to convert and it does it. It will also happily to the same to an audio CD (which you can also make on the VF80) if you'd rather do that.

Once you get stuck into it it's a lot easier than you seem to think.

Good luck

Garry

you need to understand your fostex before anything else! How will you expect to convert your music to mp3 if you dont even take the time to work out how your principle recording equipment works?

read your fostex manual....it really isnt that hard.

learn how to:

1. mix down your tracks to a stereo pair
2. master that pair to a new program
3. burn an audio cd of your mastered program
4. take the cd to your computer and "rip" the audio (convert it to mp3) - there are numerous FREE programs that do this, try MusicMatch

there are almost dedicated buttons to do most of this stuff except for point 3 on the fostex vf80....

Check out my "VF owners" (8/13/03) posting for an S/PDIF twist.

Tube, I should think the LEAST you could do is come to my house and push all these buttons for me. Why do I have to do all the work?

Just kidding, and thanks. I am trying.
