Vf 80 to my pc

How would this feasibly be done? I have connected the Vf80 via midi cable (well my flatmate has to be fair) And I am just wondering what software I would need(pref free downloads. Tried pro tools but it didn't seem to want to work on my PC which is win xp and it was asking for win 98 or higher. strange.) and how to do this through my VF 80 as the manual might as well be in Polish.

Any help we be very welcome.

what are you trying to achieve?

control over the vf80's transport and MTC lock from freeware based recording program?

upload/download of data? (not possible with midi)

??

what have you connected the midi cable to at the PC end?

I have the midi cable connected to the pc and the vf80 and in the manual it say's the software should start up on the pc when I start the pc up. Now i'm not sure if this is the studio software that I should have installed on my pc or if it's from the vf80 but it's not working. ooh this is going to take sometime. Why can't they just write the bloody manual in plain english?

want my advice?

forget the PC and just concentrate learning to use your VF80.

If you are using the software to create your backing tracks, then do that first and simply hook up your soundcard output to the VF80 inputs to record onto a new track.

If you are willing to persist with your PC, then it sounds to me like you need to go into your MIDI mapping on the PC to make the software accept the MIDI messages from the VF80.

I dont believe this would have much to do with the VF80's manual, it's more about the software you're using and the type of MIDI connection you have made to the PC.

Much appreciated TD. I really do need to sit down and fanny around with my VF80. I can record on it but it's just really the ins and outs that I need to pick up. I think a weekend indoors with a carryout and lots of patiance is needed. I'll let you know how I get on.
