Very Weird Problem in Sonar

Hi Folks, this is too weird:

When recording in Sonar, I get an echo, literally sounds like I am playing through a delay box. I dont know what this is, but it just ruined a recording session. WTF? I have nothing on, my effects box isnt even hooked up. I thought it was the soundcard (Darla24), checked everything, nothing worked.

I tried recording in Pro Audio 9, it worked fine!! Has anybody ever heard of this?? I forgot how crummy the interface is in PA9 after SONAR!! Anybody? Anybody? Bueller? Bueller?

I am getting a multi-tap echo/delay happening, even on brand new stuff. I dont get it on stuff I have already recorded, so I dont think it is a playback issue.

I use a spirit F1 mixer, analog, no effects.

Turn off input monitoring!!!!! That's latency that your hearing.

Options -> Audio -> Input Monitoring

Jeez, what a dummy I am. My Cellist actually got a baby-sitter to come over and record today, and we couldnt do anything.
I owe you one for this. I was actually going to go back to PA9, but as I said, I cant believe how crummy it is compared to SONAR.You get a gold star:cool:
 
Two questions:

1.How did this get 'enabled"? I sure as heck didnt do it, and I have been using SONAR for months.

2. Is this feature only for WDM Drivers?

Next year at the grammys, " I'd like to thank my manager, limo driver, hair stylist ( not needed), and my friends in the Cakewalk forum". We can party at AlChuck's house.

I believe this in enabled by default when you install Sonar (or at least it is if you have WDM drivers installed). I can't explain why you weren't having problems earlier. Maybe you recently updated drivers and reprofiled your sound card (although even then I'm not sure that would cause you to enable input monitoring).

This feature is only usable with very low latency settings (<5ms). Generally WDM drivers are the only way to get latencies in this range.

However, since several other factors will play into your achievable latency (e.g., number of tracks, CPU power, etc.) even with WDM drivers this particular feature (at least IMHO) ain't ready for prime time.

My house is pretty dang small for a party, DavidK... even if we leave the big monkey outside...
