Okay, i have a Behringer Eurorack UB2442FX-PRO Mixer, a 4-track, and a computer with recording software(n-track) on it. I want to not have to use my 4-track at all, just connect the mixer to my computer and record on my computer. Will ever mic get its own track on the computer? Or will ever thing be on one track, and if so how can i get everything onto seperate tracks.

Hi,
In order for you to be able to assign each track of your mixer to a seperate track in N-tracks....you need a soundcard with multiple assignable inputs....

what kind of soundcard do you have now?
Joe

I'm not sure, i think its a soundblaster, what ever came with my computer. Before i got the mixer i would just record onto my 4-track and upload it onto n-track and convert it into a mp3. But i'm starting to record for my band and its hard recording one track at a time so i ordered a mixer(Behringer Eurorack UB2442FX-PRO Mixer, it hasn't came yet). If getting a new soundcard is expensive i might connect the mixer to my 4-track with out using a computer. What do you think is the best and cheapest thing to do.

best and cheapest?
sort of like black and white there...
up and down..
left and right...

Best to me would be to get a new card with multiple inputs...not cheap at all...

cheapest would be to record on your 4 track...no additional cost... then dump into n-tracks for editing if you want to...synch might be an issue...

your choice man...good luck,
Joe

ya i'm starting to think that too, thanx for your help.

im fairly new at this also, so dont be suprised if im wrong on something, but im pretty shure (hahaha... ok shitty joke) about this. if you have your mixer connected to your computer, youre going to get 2 tracks; left and right stereo. maybe you could pan the most important track (vocals?) hard one way and pan the rest on the other side, then use something like soundforge to edit one of the stereo tracks.

If you want one track to be left, and one to be right, you'll need 2 separate inputs.

Recording through the line-in or mic-in of your soundcard will give you one stereo track.

Seeing as you're used to a 4 track, you might consider an M Audio Delta 44 sound card which you can hook up to your mixer. It gives you 4 inputs and 4 outputs for $199
