i'm looking for a few top of the line soundcards just for 1 dynamic or condenser mic.

i only record digital music via keyboard analog out, and downloadaded soundfonts(wich i will have to keep my audigy to handle, from what i read.).

so i just want a choice from a number of soundcards that offer a noticeable quality from my sb audigy. i'm talking very noticeable and justifies the price.

pro level soundcards please, or whatever level falls at or under $1100 dollars but way above the soundblaster category. again with enough quality to justify the price.

thanx

midiman delta 1010, layla, ardvark, motu, protools digi001, ummm. and some others, look into those. I think that price range is classified as "pro-sumer", really good, but more home studio/project studio based. The pro stuff is probably 10x the price +. And Yea, if you go with any of the higher end sound cards from any of those makers in your price range, you'll notice a difference of night and day between your soundblaster. The SB is a gaming card, you won't beleive the difference.

Oh and BTW, there are other good brands in your price range im sure, those are just the ones i listed off the top of my head. Oh, and the RME multiface i hear is really good. A lot of them are actuall below your stated price, i think the delta is around 600, and its comparable to any of those cards quality wise.

If you're really just looking for the highest quality stereo soundcard you can find, you might be best off buying a digital interface for the PC, and a good outboard D/A A/D converter.

For a super high quality soundcard, I'd put money on either the LynxOne or LynxTwo:

It's good to see that you're willing to invest a good chunk for high quality. Most people underestimate these costs!

thanx for the advice from everyone, it's like i struck gold.
about the mic line up, i'm just starting out and i have the sm58, and i'm about to get the sm87. i'm doing a lot of recordings with high energy vox, so i was told to start out with the 58. now i'm trying to advance one significant piece of equipment in my chain at a time. i know that the mic is the beginning of the chain, but i choose to start with the sound card first.

if you have $1100, Id go with the Lynx One, get a really good preamp, and one of the decent low cost condenser mics......
