I just upgraded from Vegas 3 to 4 (so I could use ASIO)
and everything works great except I lost all of my audio plugins :(
I can't figure out how to make vegas 4 look for them...
If I open a project file... my plugins are still on the treacks, but the names of them are gone and they say (unregistered)
they still work... but I can't add new plugins because the folders for audio plugins are empty.

all of my video plugins are still there...

any ideas???

find the plugin *.ax and just drag and drop them into an open vegas plugin chooser window

hmmmm

tried that... nothing happens. still can't choose plugins...

OK, when I get to the studio Ill try and talk you through the brute force method, if you are up. What plugs are you missing?

thats the thing... ALL of my plugins are missing.
I have a full set of Waves, Timeworks, steinberg, and sonic foundry plugins.
and none of them are showing up in Vegas 4.0

they all wrok perfectly in 3.0
but I need ASIO...
grrrr...

OK Im running 5 at work but Im assuming 4 is the same way for the most part, as this dissapearing plugins problem happens an awful lot

Do you have a sonic foundry folder at all any more or just sony ones?

is there a program files\sony\shared plugins file? Containing a bunch of dll's including mirror and wavehammer?

Are your dx plugs showing up in any other app?

I only have Vegas 3.0 and 4.0 and sound forge 6.0

they are all still sonic foundry and not sony.

the plugins show up in sound forge and vegas 3.0
just not 4.0

did you try dropping the dll's into vegas? while vegas was open?

yeah

i tried that.

"the file ***.dll is a directx plugin that supports self registration. Vegas can automatically register this plugin to use in all directx compatible applications"

I click yes.... nothing happens.

I click No... nothing happens.

A question and a suggestion...

Did you upgrade to the latest version of DirectX before upgrading Vegas?

If not, I would suggest doing that followed by a reinstall of Vegas 4.

Otherwise, I'm stumped.

yeah,
I updated directX
and reinstalled vegas 4 a few times.

:(

in the title bar for each plugin instead of the names of the plugins... it says (unregistered)

poo on a pringle

is there a shared plguins folder in program files under sonicfoundry?

Don't know if it will help, but you could try an manually re-register each plugin with the following instructions for XP.

- Example: registering MaxX Dx Plugin in Windows XP

- Click Start.. Run
- in the box that pops up, type C:\Windows\System32\Regsvr32.exe MaxX.dll

- Substitute MaxX.dll with the name of the plug you are trying to register.

Maybe you'll get lucky and it'll work.

tried that...

Loadlibrary(*.dll) failed - the specified module could not be found..

Side note...
I just tried the demo version of Vegas 5.
The plugins that come with it work. (sony track fx and such)
But my plugins that I know and love are still missing.

Why is Vegas 3 so special???

and what the frig is wrong with 4 and 5?

I have also tried re-installing the plugins.
Everything still works in 3.0 and not at all in 4 or 5.

I wish there was just a way to use ASIO in Vegas 3

oh yeah...
pipeline-
Yes, there is a shared plugins folder the contents of wich is just the sonic foundry standard plugins.... and even they don't work in Vegas 4.

ok, so I'm still stuck, I can use 4 to record using ASIO then bounce everything into Vegas 3 for mixing ans plugins... but that sucks!

Anyone at there got any other ideas to fix it?

I don't mean to be insulting or anything, but have you tried Sony support? They actually helped me out with a major problem I had with Vegas about a year ago. It took about 5 email exchanges in all, but they solved the problem. Seems like switching back & forth between 3 & 4 would be a pain and waste some time.

FWIW, the ASIO drivers didn't work very well for me - got gaps in the audio. Switched to WDM and have been happy ever since.

The only thing I need asio for is to record drums.. I need 8 tracks at the same time.. and I only have an EMU 1212m and an ultragain 8 channel in through the adat input.
If I switch to other drivers... I only get 2 inputs....

is there any way around that?

If I can record 8 tracks at the same time in Vegas 3 without using ASIO then I would love to just do that and forget all about Vegas 4

oh yeah, I did email tech support, and I am waiting to hear back... the problem is I am starting a project with a band today... and we are doing drums... So I will probably end up recording them in Vegas 4 and the bumping everything to 3 and continuing on from there ( I will only need 2 tracks at a time from then on )

No way around that that I know of. Well at least you have a work-around. Hope the session goes well!
