I do my editing and recording in Vegas at my house. I don't have a good setup for monitoring and EQing though and would like to take some of the tracks to a local studio to mix.

They only have ProTools though. Is it possible to import a .veg file into ProTools. I'm only concerned with keeping the edits and .wav placement intact.

thanks.

As long as your .wav files are all the same length (by that I mean they all start at the same time. They don't have to end at the same time) they'll line up. Call and ask the studio you intend on going to if they can use .wavs or AIFF files. You should be able to save them either way.

dang. my first post and a quick reply. thanks!

I did call the studio earlier, but I still wanted to check. I'm still fairly new to Vegas and I don't completely understand.

For example - if i have a drum track and i cut out a middle section in vegas - the .wav file is not affected, right? So when i import into ProTools would I have to redo all the edits?

Thanks again. R

If you have a track that you've edited in some way, render just that track to a new track so you end up with a new file that's intact end to end with your edits in place.

What's the best way to that? (I'm using Vegas 1.0). It doesn't truncate the .wav file. It's still using the master wav.

Thanks!

Right before you render, solo a track, then render it to a wav. Repeat as necessary. You will end up with a bunch of huge wave files with lots of silence, but this way it will be easier to get them lined up when you move em to Pro Tools.

And once you get them in ProTools, you'll be able to cut-out the dead air space. ;)
