Hi!
I'm using AI4.

In the project I'm working on I use a HalionOne string section.

In the mix I want to create variations in the sound level so the strings are louder in certain places and lower in other.

Is this possible, and if that is the case how do I achieve this?

Automation....basically you can tell Cubase to automatically alter the volume, or make EQ changes, or any parameter changes at all really, at points in the music. You'll notice on each track there's an 'R' and a 'W' button. Pressing the 'W' button puts it in Write mode. When this is active, it will record all changes you make to things like volume, EQ etc..on a given track. Afterwards, disable the 'W' and enable 'R', which puts it in Read mode. This will carry out the automations you have set as the tune plays. You can also go in and manually fine tune your automations.

However, there's probably a much better solution...how do you implement the Halion stuff? Is this through MIDI...on the MIDI rollout? There should be a velocity function. At a guess this would work better if you're talking about making strings sound like they're actually being played louder or softer. I don't want to go into detail just yet incase you already know about it. Let us know if you require some expansion to this. :)

Thanks for the answer!
The thing is that I'm not at all good at playing complicated cords on the midi and therefore I have put in every tone of the "string part" manually in the Key Editor. And the result is that it has more or less the same sound level.

I have try to study the "Write function" in the manual, Which is the same as you told me;), and would like to ask if I have understand the information right.
If I activate Write for the string track/channel all changes or variations I do in this channel while listening to the project will be recorded as "automatic events". Is that right?
And by activating Read the recorded changes will be performed when playing the project. If this is right, must the Read function always be activated for that channel even after saving the changes?

if you're writing it in the key editor, you can adjust the velocity of the MIDI notes. I think there's a pane at the bottom, or select a few and go to MIDI -> Velocity... to subtract an amount from their velocities.

This will save you having to go through automation and will give you more control over the volumes of individual notes, but it will probbaly take longer to do. Tis up to you

Thank you again for the answers.

To YorkshireTrippe.
It does not seem to be possible to do it in the way you suggest in AI4.
At least I could not find out how to do.

To Legionserial.
But I have tested using Write - Read as suggested by you, and I'm very glad to see how easy it is to make the variations I wanted to in this way.

Cubase is fantastic ;)

Thank again
