van halen reverb question in LE

Hey guys, me and a buddy of mine are collaborating on Van Halen's "Aint Talking Bout Love". He's doing all the guitars to my scratch drum/bass track and sending them to me to mix in with the real other tracks.

My question: Is it possible in LE to have the main guitar on one side (L) and all the reverb and delay and shit on the other (R) like they do in the original? If so, how do I do it?

Thanks,
Greg

Zed is probably going to beat me to it, but -

Take the reverb and make it a mono send effect and Pan it to the other side from the guitar.

edit - same with the delay. Mono delay. On the AUx track, pan it Right.

well one way you can do it is to make 2 tracks, with one of the tracks panned R with the effects settings to 100% wet.

i know in reaper you can set up a track that has just the effects on it, then send your guitar track to the effects track, and pan them separately. in Cubase, it doesn't look like the send effects have their own pan control though...at least not that i can see off hand. plus the sends in Cubase LE only let you use one effect per send, but in Reaper you can set up a track with as many effects on it as you want, that way you can just pan it by itself without having to pan like 3 different sends.

if i figure something out in Cubase i'll let you know.

how do you pan the sends?

You pan where the send is going. The send goes to the FX track, so you pan the FX track. You can make FX tracks Mono or Stereo - just make them mono.

I do this all the time in SX3, I assume you can do it in LE.

Here it is in SX -

Whoa, I've never seen anything like that in LE.

Admittedly though, there about a jillion things in LE that I've never even touched.

Thanks for the replies yall.

Just goofing around, I came up with a chickenshit way of getting a similar effect. I just pan the main track hard left, send it to a stereo reverb effect, and make it wet as hell. It seems like the main track still sounds clear while the reverb noise is on the right. I'd love to be able to do this the correct way though.

Can't you just pan the reverb return?

Man, I don't think so. You can adjust pre/post fader and how much of the send gets affected, but I don't see where I can pan the effect.

Where do your sends go to then???????

there's like a Send rack type thing where you load send effects, then you can adjust the send level from each audio track. doesn't look like there's any pan controls or anything on there. :o

From the manual:

Up to four send effects can be used. When you use send effects, audio is routed
through the effect processors via independent effect sends for each channel, just like
on a “real” physical mixer. The output from each effect processor is then routed to one
of the buses or the master fader, where it is mixed with the “dry” signal, if any. Send effects
are mono in - stereo out.

It doesn't say, and I don't see anything about being able to pan the returns.

Where does the effect come back? (you send signal to the effect, the output of the effect has to come back into the mix somewhere)

oops, we were posting at the same time. It looks like you have to set up another buss and route the effect into that buss. That buss will probably have a pan control. If it doesn't, I will add that to the list of things that will keep me from getting Protools.

What does your mixer 2 look like???

I don't see how to re-route the send after processing. It just gets mixed back in somewhere. I guess to the master bus or back into the track it came from.

Okay, I think I figured it out somewhat for anyone else that wants to try it with Cubase LE. I actually sort of found it in the manual! :p

Create a group track. In the original audio track, make one of the sends go to the group track. Then, in the group track, use whatever effect you want as an INSERT. Now the original audio track can be panned left and stay dry, and the group track can be panned right and be dripping wet.

It's not perfect, but it seems to sound pretty similar to what Eddie did on those old VH records.

the mixer view in LE looks nothing like your picture. keep in mind that LE is about 5 steps down from SX, so it's really limited :o

I'm sorry. I thought LE just limited your # of tracks, and had less inserts/sends available, but functioned the same as SX.
