SAMMY HAGAR CONFIRMS FRIENDSHIP WITH VAN HALEN BROTHERS:
I took some time off over the weekend, only to return to another barrage of e-mails and questions regarding the Van Halen news of last week. There has been a new development all rabid Van Halen fans will, no doubt, already be aware of - Sammy Hagar has made an official comment on the rumors started here that he is about to announce a return to Van Halen.
Here are his comments:
November 21 2003
"A couple of months ago I called Alex out of the blue because we had run into a mutual friend and both of us said to tell each other "hello". So I said, "I am going to call him" and we talked.
Alex said "Hey, next time you are down here call me and we'll have dinner or lunch or something." So a few weeks ago I was in L.A. I called Al, we had lunch, spent the whole day together. It was great. Reconnecting as friends. That was the end of it. A couple weeks later I talked to Ed on the phone, and a few times since then. It's like old times as friends but nothing more than that. It's great to have open communications with some old friends again, much better than being in a maze. If anything develops more from that when the time is right, I will keep you posted.

I'll believe it when I see it.

And even then I won't like it. Van Hagar never did much for me. Bring back Dave or go somewhere new, but don't waste any more time w/ Hagar.

I'm with Aaron on this. Bring back David so we can hear some "real" Van Halen.

DLR ...

there had been on the same site rumors that he had been talking with them but that they saw it was going nowhere and it wasn't pursued...not wanting to get a big uproar started but have you seen Roth lately i dont think a time machine could bring back the old VH ....i always percieved them as 2 different bands anyway

I don't think that either Dave (who they hate) or Sammy will be back, and frankly who cares. The only thing that out does thier record sale is their egos.

Ya, if "Me Wise Magic" is any indication of how things would go with Dave, I say forget about it. Van Halen pretty much just exists in my mind now as a great snapshot of my teenage years. It's fun to go back and revisit it sometimes, but the world has moved on and there's no going back...

yeah...why try and recreate the past...who wants it?

and...vocals weren't really my main interest with VH anyway. Do they really need a singer for a good guitar album? Not in my opinion.

like i said ...

i always percieved them as two different bands and they in my opinion were both great ,i tend to lean toward the hagar years though only because i think they were more diverse ,they could be hard ,they could do ballads they could do some pop ,i think Ed maybe felt held back with Dave ...just my opinion

Van Hagar was ok, I like Sammy, but Dave's the man for Van Halen. Too bad whatever happened.

I say, try a different approach, with the music as the foundation, get guest singers to do different songs. 10 songs - 7 with vocals, 3 instrumentals. Do they have the ability? Once, yes! Now?

multi singers...

idea was kicked around at first when dave left ...also in guitar world th one with dimebag darrel and zakk wylde on th cover they talked about where they got ed's number when they were drinking and called him about doing a show like G3 they said he would consider it,i'm sure he said that to get there drunk asses off th phone but th possibilties are awesome to think about ....think about it dime laying down a HEAVY RYTHYM line while ed and zakk break into an endless squealing pinch harmonic fest, alex and vinnie becoming thunder twins while newsted and michael anthony keep th downbeat chugging ,hell who needs vocals .....

I am with Aaron...to me the Diamond Dave era IS Van Halen. I like Sammy as a solo artist but I never really got into Van Hagar.

Check your Christmas carols this December. VanHalen is coming out with a Solo for "Joy to the World".

I think he's doing this with a bunch of other guitarplayers, each playing a solo Carol.

PS: I liked haggar better. I did watch Roth in Milwaukee last Summer.

That is on a Xmas album that Steve Lukather is releasing. I heard an mp3 of it already, but for the life of me I can't remember where. It was a very typical (i.e. brilliant) Eddie solo, in that instantly recognizable style he has. Check out Lukather's site, maybe it's there.

I didn't care for it much though. They failed to keep it in the Carols flavour. It's too Blues oriented for me.
