Is it possible for me to take my VAMP and hook it up to a 4x12 cab and use it in a live situation? I hear talk about ohms and stuff like that but I have no idea what it means. I hope its as easy as plugging the outs of my vamp to the ins of the cabinet.

If the VAMP is one of those desktop guitar processor things (and I think it is), then no. You need a power amp of some sort to go between the VAMP and the cab.

Do I have to get a certain power amp for the cab, I mean, can all power amps work with the cabinet?

Sure, just make sure the speakers are rated for power handling greater than the amp can put out and that the impedence ( ohms) matches.

Impedence = resistance...you need the right load or your amp will work too hard!

Any power amp with work as long as you don't go and hook up multiple cabs, creating rediculous impedences that the amp can't handle. If your not sure what the lowest/highest impedence that the amp can handle is, do some research or read the spec sheet. Impedences are very important when dealing with tube amplifiers. You must match them, or your tube life will be degraded as well as your tone. Hybrid/solid state amps have some leway, but it stilll isn't a good idea to mis-match. Confirm your cab impedence and hook it up accordingly. There are usually impedence selectors on amps that need to be switched accordingly.

Also, a depending factor on deciding which amp with suit your needs may be the available imput formats....make sure that the pre-outs are compatible to the amp-ins.

Yeah, the cab is just speakers.....brands don't matter, you don't have to match them up. Sometimes varying in components is what it takes to get your tone. Greg.
