Hi,

As some of you may already know I'm pretty much as new as a newbie can be. I'm getting my setup together and i've pretty much got all the "necessaries" to start recording to a reasonable sound quality while I learn the art of recording and mixing.

However, I want to pass on a valuable lesson I learned today which, had I known about it when I started off (although it's pretty much common sense) would have saved me some time and trouble:

Buy the most expensive cabling you can afford!

I've got a really nice class A amp powering a pair of pretty decent Mordaunt-Short nearfields, but only when I replaced the thin stringy speaker cable with some quality silver/ofc cable did all the beautiful sparkly top end and high mids come out! Previously, the speakers were sounding kinda "woolly" and bass-heavy and I couldn't figure out why!

I've applied this theory to insert cables, mic cables, midi cables etc. I'm pretty sure the investment will pay for itself as these cables will last. After all - what's the point in buying good components if you're going to connect them up with crappy cables?

So there we have it. Learning from experience!

PS. I would recommend SCSI Bob (http://magicpocket.co.uk/scsibobs/) as a fine place to get hand-built cables and leads, he's a very helpful chap and if you explain your set up he'll recommend exactly what you need, which was a godsend to me I can tell you.

I wouldnt say 'msot expensive' but 'best performing for the price' Becuase the more expensive doesnt always mean better performance. But yes better cables to make a big difference
