V67g and B1 my personal experience

OK, I got my new B1. So what I did was went to the studio Friday and took a original track ( Hip Hop ) that we are currently working on. This track already had all vocals laid on it but my partner had already told me the day before that he wanted to do all of his vocals over. So being the " Pro " LOL engineer that I am,, I powered down the phantom and unplugged the original mic used for this session ( V67g) and plugged in my new shiny silver B1.

So we went into headphone mode and I listened to the B1 during some mic checks. Then I tracked all of the vox again. During playback my partner and I listened to the track from start to finish while playing only the vox. I already detected the difference in the vox based on the two mics, but to give the B1 a fair shake I played the vox only to see if my non-technical partner would hear any difference with the new mic. After 2 playbacks he looked at me and said " Why do I sound cannish" cannish was his term for basically saying, thinner. I knew the mic was thinner when I first started playback because I wanted to reach for the EQ, which is something I try to avoid.

In conclusion.

I unhooked the B1 and hooked back up the V67g, retracked the vox again and during playback, my partner looked at me and said " Now thats what im talking about"

The B1 appeared a lot more neutral than the V67g and if it's coloration that the V67g adds , then I like that for my partner and myself vox. I have a female coming in today and Im gonna try the B1 on her. All in All, for 79 bucks the B1 is still a good mic to had to your cabinet.

sounds like you pretty much "heard for yourself" what a lot of people have been saying about the differences between the two. namely that the v67g is more "coloring" or "flattering" and the B1 is more "neutral" in respect to each other.

i don't know a lot about your applications/uses, but between the B1 and the v67g, you've got 2 mics that'll be able to handle a wide variety of sounds/sources. for the money, you could have chosen a lot more poorly.

Agreed !!!

I like them both, but they are definetely different.
It just goes to show how great this forum is. I have read many posts on both of these mics and without being able to AB mics around here I tend to listen with my eyes by reading the posts on mics. I got just what I read, but once I got the mic I could then hear it.
