Hi,
I have Cool Edit Pro, and I was wondering what the best way to record onto it was. Would a small jack lead coming from my amp into my computer work ok, or would it turn out all fuzzy? If not, then what can I do to get good recordings, bearing in mind I have very little money?!
Thanks

recording direct from your amp will sound pretty bad (i know, i had to do that for a long time). cleans sound fine, distortion sounds harsh. what do you have available in terms of budget? for $200, you can obtain a mobilepre usb by m-audio and a $50 shure pg57 mic (considering you're on budget this isnt a bad way to get started in recording). i'm actually thinking about selling the mobilepre for $120. anyway, post any other questions and we'll try and help you go from there

Well that sounds good, except I can't really afford the MobilePre and the mic for that price - it seems alot. Is there an alternative to the MobilePre?

well there is something called the fast track usb by m-audio. and it seems to come with software that emulates effects (and i'm guessing distortion). it's msrp is 130, but you can get it for 99 on ebay. it can also handle 1 xlr mic if you ever choose to buy one.

Not sure if you noticed, but there's a cool edit pro forum on this website as well. Just FYI.

this is more of a general "how do i record into my computer" sort of question and not really cool edit specific (although that's the program he has), so it's cool.

by the way, i'm from KC and 24 too.

Just thought I'd say what's up to you fellow KC guys, lol!

We may be a small force on this forum, but we sure as hell know how to centralize ourselves!
