Using volume envelopes in LE4

Hi everyone,
I use Cubase LE4 (for mixing only), & need certain guitar parts to be louder in spots, then go back down to the vol they were. IE: during a verse the guitar is say -10db, then for a small part (lead break) I need the guitar to be a little louder. How would I go about this? Automation? Vol envelope? Do I split the track at the beginning & end of the "lead" part & just spike the vol a little on the selectd event? Any help in this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

One way is to use Write/Read automation (the W and R icons on the mixer track). Select the 'W' on the guitar track, adjust the volume fader during playback, then select the 'R' icon to pick up the changes. There's an explanation on pages 94 - 96 of the Operations Manual, so that's probably the best place to start.

Thanks Andy,
I've been doing that a little, it's just tedious for me. I was splitting the tracks into sections (like a gtr solo for example) & applying extra vol to the selected event at the top of the screen. I guess either way is fine, I'll just have to work at the automation to get where I need to be on it. Using the automation like you suggested would keep me from splitting my tracks, & if I needed to change the vol or whatever I automated, probably would be easier to fix, rather than chasing down each individual event. Thanks for you help!!:)

Also, using W/R creates an automation envelope, which you can then edit on the screen.

Thanks again Andy,
I never even considered that possibility even though I have tinkered with the "sample editor" (I think that's what it's called). Just goes to show you how "new" I am to all of this! Thanks again!!
