i bought a delta 44 thinking i could double up later as needs required.
i thought id done enough info research to back up my intensions.
after purchasing the first unit (all went well it recorded great). i didnt see
any precise info in the manual on the use of multi 44s. when calling m-audio they suggest selling this unit and getting a 1010lt. one feature of the 44s i liked was the balanced i/os. m-audio said because the 44 had no external wordclock that they didnt support multi 44 use. ok heres the clincher some
users are claiming to use multi 44s, 44/66s, 44/1010s all with simultaneous
recording capabilities. my pc is an old 750mhz athlon with cakewalk.
if anyone has experienced the use of multi 44s can you give some info so if
i purchase another i dont end up D.O.A.

thanks curtiedrums

With the other Delta products that have Spdif, yuo can synch them via the Spdif I/O.
Having said that there are listed drivers for win 98 that are specifically noted for multi card installations.
I have a feeling the driver synchs the to the same internal clock.
Look into the M-Audio drivers for the multi card drivers.

If you give up and decide to go with a 1010, I have 3 of them (not the LTs, the full version) I just pulled from an install I'd sell one as cheap as possible, it has the breakout box with Balanced I/O plus spdif.

I'm using A Delta 1010, not the LT with a Delta 66
I almost bought a second 1010 still might.

The 1010 i use for the drum mics and vocals and the 66 gets the lead, rhythm, and bass guitars.

All record perfectly together.

I have noticed in the drivers that you can use single, duo or synch. Something like that. I have no idea what that is. To lazy to try and find one of the manuals.

You can't sync them through S/PDIF. Did a bit of searching on this. Apparently, and I'm not 100% on this, you don't need to worry about it so much if you have windows XP/2000. Those OS' are supposed to support something called "KernelSync". I also read somewhere that putting the cards on separate unshared IRQ's helps. However, screwing with IRQ's in XP is a total bitch.

There's also a section in the hardare seting on the 44's control panel called Multitrack Driver Devices. There's an option for Multi-Card Sync. I've read that may be a way ofdoing it.

I'm pretty sure it's not impossible. I personally wouldn't bother listening to M-Audio's customer support. My experiences with them have not been good. On one occasion a tech support guy was actually pretty abusive and started swearing at me. Screw those guys.

I use a Delta 44 with a Delta 1010LT and they automaticly sync up- at least in XP they do...didn"t have to change settings or adjust anything , they work great together , you might want to upgrade your PC a bit if useing multiple cards as your PC is as Old as the Dinosaurs....

Curtis,

The method of connectivity that the Delta series uses is a coaxial SPDIF connection.
When two or more cards are chained together using this connection and a 75 ohm SPDIF
cable, they can sync using a master/slave configuration. The Operating Systems
Windows 2000/XP support "KernelSync" and do not necessarily need the external
connection using S/PDIF. Delta 44 can only be stacked in these Operating Systems,
since this card does not have a S/PDIF connector. For this type of Operation, all cards
have to be set to "Multiple Card Sync". You may want to give the cards different names
so you know which is which. However, with some systems this may not work.

Delta 44

I use three delta 44 sound cards .....of cause you do need 3 PCI slots to have three cards ......run real well , never had a problem

The standard m-audio driver will set up multi cards

All you do is put both cards in your PC and and turn it on and start recording , if you allready have the drivers installed then you don"t have to install them again for the new card ....
