I saw this vid on youtube, were the drove over the sm58 with a car, and lots of other cool stuff.

So now I`m think about using them as drumsticks, just pan em hard left and right.

You think it would work?

Sounds like a good idea. You try it first and let us know how it turns out! :D

No! SM57s are drum sticks! SM58s (with foam wind screens) are bass drum mallets! Didn't you get the memo?

:D :D :D

I think it's a job for an AKG c1000s but I don't wanna start that war again. apologies in advance....

Just had amazing results using a Neuman U87 on a gong, really got a crackin sound.
It went through a TLA- that I submerged in my bath-tub to colour the sound.:D

Wow..I bet that sounded nice and warm with a nice top end airy sound :D

Suddenly, I'm in intense pain after imagining somebody hitting a gong with a multi-thousand-dollar mic.

I was thinking the exact same thing as I came to the end of the statement.

If anyone wants to try this - the OP - I'd use those ES58's just to save money, and not give Shure the business...

you guys dissing a u87 are you kidding me? i freakin love that mic through an avalon 737 its instant hit record mojo

I diss that mic any day, It broke my home, mad my unlce gay, and inpreganted my two sisters.:D:D:D

That's an interesting idea. You'd probably need to extend them somehow or you'd hit your hands. I hope you were serious about this, and I would love to hear it/see it.

My guess is that what would happen is the sound would be very inconsistent for each drum hit, because the mic wouldn't always be facing the same way. If you could find an omni that is as sturdy as an SM, I'd try that.

Good luck!

P.S. Isfahani, I would not recommend Shure ripoffs for this task. The difference between actual SM58s and other 58s is that the Shure mics are much more durable.
